With Doug at the helm and me as his copilot, it's fitting that the most perfect sign imaginable to a Canadian on the go appeared before our eyes. Our massive RV had too much inertia to exit the highway in time but worry not, for our beloved Canadian chain has expanded throughout much of Ohio. We're now eagerly looking forward to our next stop, where we'll enjoy a taste of home, at Tim Hortons

Fun times
I had a great week back in TO. It was good to be home, see the family, friends and Cosmo. It was also a good time to be home because I could be there for Cosmo who had surgery this week. He had to get a growth removed so I was glad to be there and see he's ok and not have to worry about him from afar.
Roll up the rim was fun. I claim that I was 1-3 with a walk although some will say I went 1-4. I think that the free drink coffee should not actually count against your win percentage just like a walk in baseball. I don't know if anybody will back me up except maybe Gordner. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
So it's good to be back in California. I'm looking forward to going to work and not having to work from home. It gets tiring communication all the time via email and I like to be able to ask questions and talk face-to-face with coworkers.
Oh, and if you haven't seen "V for Vendetta" go see it NOW!!! It's a fantastic movie with lots of interesting ideas and I'd say it's as good as The Matrix.

Hola! Como estas?
So I've had a few days to get settled and everything and so far I'm really enjoying California. The weather is pretty nice, typically 13-15 Celsius and there's been some rain but it's really just drizzling. Apparently I missed about a week straight of rain which ended right about when I got here.
One thing that caught me off guard was how common Spanish is here in California. I mean, I was expecting some but I figured that I'm in Northern California, a bit of a ways off from Mexico so I didn't think there would be that much but it's really everywhere. Lots of the people around my neighbourhood either only speak Spanish or primarily speak Spanish. Anyway, we went to a discount store to buy some dishes and stuff and we see this sign posted which says something like "Due to California State Law declaration 65 we must inform you that some dishes sold at this store are known to cause cancer, etc.". If they KNOW it causes cancer and other harmful stuff why would they sell it? So we decide to ask a woman there for help. She says "Sorry, no speak English". So acting all proud of myself that I took Spanish 101, thinking I could get some little bit of information out of her, I reply "Yo hablo un poco espanol." She replies "Oh,..." and then goes off at a mile a minute. Un poco = a little!! I couldn't even break apart the words because she was speaking so fast. We excused ourselves and moved on to two other salespeople who again couldn't speak English. I was discouraged so I didn't even try this time. Anyway, finally the 4th guy speaks English and explains to us that some of the stuff is for display purposes only and you aren't supposed to eat off them because they contain lead and he shows us how to tell the difference.
I don't know why I went into such a detailed story but meh. I'm not deleting it now. Feel free to enjoy or suffer through it.
Aside from that work has been really awesome so far. I really like the company but I'll save that for another post! Oh, I also visited Stanford University on the weekend and it's an absolutely beautiful campus. That would definitely be a "perk" of studying there! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures though because my camera ran out of batteries. :(

I'm alive, really I am
So, after going on a bit of a posting spree, it seems I've settled down into my usual habit of not posting very often... we'll see what happens as time goes on. Anywho, I did my final presentation at work today (US interns are done at the end of the week) so that means no more distractions at work and I can concentrate on just getting my stuff done which will be a welcomed change. Aside from that, not much to report. Elise visited this weekend which was uber fun. We actually saw not one but two broadway films. Hairspray is probably the best piece of live theatre I've ever seen. It's beyond words...
Oh, today I also bought a laptop. I was able to purchase it at the Lehman corporate rate so it was quite cheap and should be good enough to keep me happy for the rest of the term. It's a Latitude D610 for those who are curious... Ta ta for now!
